Russian President Vladimir Putin has commented on the effect of the imposed sanctions on the Russian economy. According to the Russian leader, the restrictions imposed by the West on a large scale against the country in 2022 are reminiscent of the Russian proverb about the pit.
“The situation with the sanctions against the Russian Federation is reminiscent of the proverb ‘Don’t dig a hole for another, otherwise you will fall into it yourself,’” Putin stressed during a speech at an RSPP meeting.
The Head of State highlighted the problems faced by European countries after the imposition of sanctions against Russia. He cited the use of products in the consumer sector as an example. In particular, he noted that Western countries should buy even such a vegetable as turnip from Russian growers.
- It has come to the point that their leaders suggest that their citizens switch to turnips instead of lettuce and tomatoes: turnips are a good product. But you will probably also have to come to us for turnips, as our harvest level still far exceeds that of our European neighbours,” the president said.
Previously, Vladimir Putin paid a visit to a military aviation plant in Ulan-Ude, where he spoke with company employees. During the meeting, the Head of State underlined what had to be done to win the global confrontation with the West.
