Allegheny Health Network contract with Cigna set to expire

Allegheny Health Network’s contract with Cigna expires this week. The two sides are negotiating, but depending on what happens, many patients may have to find a new provider or get new insurance.” I can’t believe that this has happened, not just to me, but to so many others out there, ” said Susan McCourt, an AHN patient. “There’s thousands of us. It’s going to be so difficult for us to find new care,” McCourt said. McCourt goes to several specialists often to treat her lupus, heart disease and other conditions. She said if AHN and Cigna can’t reach a contract agreement, it could greatly affect her daily life and body.” If I can’t see my doctors that I’ve established a relationship with in the past 10 years, I’m not sure what I’m going to do,” she said. AHN sent Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 a statement that said, in part, “AHN’s contract with Cigna ends at midnight on June 30, so as of July 1, unless a new contract can be reached, Cigna members will not have in-network access to AHN’s hospitals, programs and physicians/clinicians. That said negotiations for a contract continue and some progress is being made.””These people are my best friends because they know me inside and out.In fact, I’m ready to start a new IV treatment for my lupus, but who knows what’s going to happen?” McCourt said. Cigna also sent Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 a statement. It said, in part, “We want to keep health care affordable, especially as our clients and customers are managing rising prices due to inflation. Unfortunately, Allegheny Health Network notified us they will leave our network July 1 unless we agree to their demands for unreasonably high rates that would significantly increase health care costs for the people we serve.” Both AHN and Cigna said they hoped a deal could be reached.
