Warning: SPOILERS for Superboy: The Man of Tomorrow #1After finding a new gadget in the Fortress of Solitude, super boy has another power that even Superman doesn’t have. Conner Kent is entering a brand-new era, and this stylish accessory also doubles as an extremely handy teleportation device.
Superboy repurposes a Fortress teleport device in Superboy: The Man of Tomorrow #1 by Kenny Porter, Jahnoy Lindsay, and Lucas Gattoni. After deciding that he needs to find his own corner of the universe to protect, Superboy uses the Fortress of Solitude’s resources to find the corner that most needs his help. With Kelex’s aid, he also finds a neat (and stylish) teleport device that will help him get across the universe in the blink of an eye.
Superboy Unlocks Teleportation
As Kelex notes, “it’s an outdated zeta-beam bracelet and communicator that’s labeled too dangerous for use.” Conner is a little less cautious than Superman and claims the bracelet, which also doubles as a translator, for his own use. And use it he does: he immediately blips out to save a distant planet from a vicious Dominator.
Superboy Protects This New Power
Conner’s new teleportation bracelet is just another element of his new era, which sees him reclaiming his own sense of self while finding his place in the universe. Feeling crowded out in Metropolis, which is protected by Supergirl and two Supermen – both Clark and Jon Kent – Superboy decides to strike out on his own and discover where he might be most helpful. It only makes sense that Conner wants to “find himself,” given that he was completely forgotten by most of the Superman Family after he was erased from continuity during the New 52 era. What does Superboy have to offer in such a large, powerful family that seems to have moved on without him?
Superboy Becomes an Intergalactic Hero
This new series features Superboy using both his Kryptonian powers as well as his completely unique ability of tactile telekinesis, proving that of course he has something unique as a hero. Beyond that, this new teleportation bracelet gives Conner another edge and ability over even Superman himself. Superboy’s new tech sets him apart as someone willing to risk using an experimental and even “dangerous” device, even by the standards of Kryptonians. Conner Kent, originating in the ’90s, is no stranger to accessorizing; the bracelet fits right in with his iconic look. With this bracelet, his power set and his whole look have both gotten major upgrades.
Superboy’s new teleportation “power,” given to him by this device, sets him apart from the rest of the Superman Family, and, more importantly, it lets him jet set across the universe to save lives on an even larger scale. It’s a power that suits Conner, who has always been a breezier hero than Superman – someone who is perfectly characterized by jetting off on his own to find where he’s needed. Conner Kent is now an intergalactic hero, and super boy is one step closer to being an independent superhero operating outside Superman‘s shadow.
