By Divya Bhati: Many people dream of working at a top tech company, but getting an interview call from these companies is not easy. But it’s not impossible either. Some people try for years to get into their dream company, while others find the right strategy to land the job. Helping her fellow techies, a software engineer at Google has recently shared her journey and revealed the five-step strategy that helped her get interview calls from some of the biggest names in tech, including Microsoft, Amazon and Infosys.
Deeksha Pandey, a Lucknow-based software engineer shared a LinkedIn post about the five things that helped her get interview invitations from prestigious companies and eventually land a job as a software engineer at Google. Here is the five-step strategy that Pandey followed to impress multiple big tech leaders and join Google.
Subscribe to the career pages
The first thing Pandey did was subscribe to the career pages of more than 100 companies. This way, whenever a new position opened up and the company posted about it, she would receive an email notification. This allowed him to apply for hundreds of jobs without combing through several career pages every day to look for new openings.
Participate in hiring contests and hackathons
Pandey also participated in almost all of the hiring contests organized frequently by multiple companies. “Some popular sites that regularly conduct these contests are: Hackerearth , D2C etc,” she notes.
Participate in hackathons
She also participated in multiple hackathons that indirectly helped her in getting interview calls. “For example, I participated in Microsoft Fixathon by Microsoft which eventually helped me in getting an interview call from Microsoft,” Pandey wrote in her LinkedIn post.
Tailor your resume to the job description
Before submitting her resume to any job opening, Pandey used to trim her resume according to the job description. She tried to highlight/add the keywords in her resume that were in sync to the job description. This helped her to get noticed by the hiring managers. “Before submitting my resume to any job opening, I used to trim my resume according to the job description. I tried to highlight/add the keywords in my resume that were in sync to the job description,” she wrote.
Don’t give up
Pandey received thousands of rejection mails, but that didn’t stop her from applying for new job openings. She says that it’s important not to get demotivated if you don’t get any reply from the company. “I got 1000s of rejection mails but that didn’t stop me from applying to a new job opening. So in summary, don’t get demotivated if you don’t get any replies from the companies. Just keep applying, you never know which could be the one for you,” she concluded.
